Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share the story of Tater with you. In this series I share the stories of the horses who help make Happy Success Ranch Retreats such a special place full of happiness and healing. Tater is a 23-year-old quarter horse mare. She’s a beautiful buckskin. She is extremely shy and introverted, but she is such a sweetheart. Her best friends are Chevy and Ben. We have had her for about 8 years now. When she comes up to you, it’s a real treat because she’s choosing to be with us. She hasn’t done a lot of the equine gestalt healing work except for one time because she’s so shy and introverted. With equine gestalt work, we don’t ask our horses to do anything they don’t want to do, so Tater does not have to do the work if she does not want to. We let her be herself. We are honored she is a part of our herd!

Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share the story of Ben with you. In this series I share the stories of the horses who help make Happy Success Ranch Retreats such a special place full of happiness and healing.
Ben is a Tennessee Walker. We believe he is about 18 or 19-years-old. Lisa passed away from lung cancer, and her horses Sweet and Ben needed a home. They were from Washington. Lisa used to do Equine Gestalt work with Ben under a tree in Washington. We think Lisa used to ride him English and Western style. We think he was ridden in the mountains and on the beach. Ben is best friends with Sweet, Tater, and Chevy.
Ben is an incredible healer. He is all about Chakra balancing. When we first got him, my husband Dave would say how peaceful he felt after being around Ben. Ben is incredible at making sure people’s energy gets in alignment and balanced again.
Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share the story of Harry Trotter with you. In this series I share the stories of the horses who help make Happy Success Ranch Retreats such a special place full of happiness and healing.
He is a Saddlebred horse, which is why he’s named Harry Trotter. They are famous for trotting. We call him our goofy giraffe. He is 22-years-old. He has a sad story. We got him 12 years ago. He’s from up near Seattle. The people who had him were not going to keep him because they didn’t have a shelter for him. He was only 10 years old and in perfect health and they were going to put him down along with a 35 year old mare they had. They had the backhoe come in and dig two graves. At the time Dave was hunting with our truck, so I didn’t have a way to get him. I pleaded with the people to spare his life and said we were going to come get him.
He loves it when you rub his teeth. It’s like a soothing pacifier for him, but we try to not encourage it so he doesn’t get mouthy and nibble on everyone. It’s like his bad little habit.
He has worked with some women doing the equine gestalt work. Harry Trotter is very high strung, and he has done some healing work with women who have also been high strung and needed to learn to slow down and take life at a different pace.
Harry Trotter thanks us every day of his life that we rescued him and that he did not end up in the hole in the ground. We are glad to have him here at Happy Success Ranch Retreats. Click below to watch and learn more.
Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share the story of Bugz with you. In this series I share the stories of the horses who help make Happy Success Ranch Retreats such a special place full of happiness and healing. Bugz is actually Jennah (my Director of Operations) horse. Bugz is 23 years old; the same age as Jennah. Bugz is a tall appendix quarter horse. She is from the bloodline of King Fritz. Another one of our horses, Ladybugs, is also from the bloodline of King Fritz, which makes them distant cousins.
Bugz is from Bend, Oregon. I commented on a Facebook post of some really cute goats. The lady replied and asked if I wanted the goats, and I said no. The same lady asked if I would ever want her horse. I told her how we already have a lot of horses, but I wondered if I could convince my husband if it was a horse for Jennah. The lady was moving to Idaho and was battling cancer and wanted to make sure her horse found a good home. Bugz is an amazing healer. We use her in a lot of the women’s groups. She is great around others because she is so sweet, and she is a very powerful healer. She is a great leader in the herd.
Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share Roanie’s story with you. Roanie was born pure black. She has an Arabian mother who was pure black and an Andalusian father who looks just like she does. She’s now 11 years old. She will eventually be almost all white with the gray mane and tail.
Roanie was a rescue horse. She used to be at our neighbor’s place. Our neighbor has now moved. When she lived there, she would play in the pasture all by herself. She had no friends. She also had no shelter. We would see her in the cold mornings shivering under a tree. I told Dave how much I wanted to rescue her. She is such a friendly and extroverted horse, but she did not have a herd mate. In 2019 my husband Dave decided he was going to get her for me for my birthday, unbeknownst to me. I tell him he doesn’t need to get me any gifts for any occasion anymore, since my gifts are out in our fields.
Roanie has not done a lot of the equine gestalt healing work yet, but she loves to leech. Leeching is when it looks like the horse is yawning, but they are actually pulling toxins off you. If Jennah and I or Dave and I are out with the horses, and if we have had a hard day or something sad happen to us, Roanie knows and starts to leech. When we leave the pasture, we feel so much better.

Let’s continue in my series called “The Herd Behind the Healing.” I want to share Babie’s story with you. She has two blue eyes. She is a Tennessee walker. She came from Nashville, from my twin sister’s house. She was born on my sister’s farm. She’s named Knights Faithful Lady, but she got the nickname Babie because my sister had to bottle feed her every 2 hours to keep her alive. When the mare was pregnant, she ate fescue grass, so she didn’t make milk. When my sister was cutting back on some horses back in 2014, she asked if we wanted Babie. She is called a Spotted Tennessee Walker because of her black and white coloring. She’s 20 years old. Her best friend is Shasta. She has not done a lot of the Gestalt healing work, but the work she has done has been amazing. She gets in your space a lot because she was bottle fed.
